AIA projects allow you to manage retainage withheld by the GC until project completion and also stored materials which are funds collected up front from the GC to purchase materials needed to complete the work. Since our deposit feature is only available for standard fixed price jobs, we advise leveraging the stored materials portion of a pay application to invoice a "deposit" on an AIA job.
When creating the first invoice on the job, be sure to choose a billing method that includes stored materials
You can then input the value of the deposit into the stored materials box. Note the retainage 0% set for materials as I am just wanting to create a flat rate deposit without withholding retention:
On the next invoice (or any future progress invoice for this job) you can $0 out the stored materials and move the value into work completed. Note that the value of the invoice does not increase since we already collected these funds as stored materials, however when moving the value to work complete, it will be subject to any retention we have set for work/labor:
