This article explains how to view an employee's breadcrumb trail on a time entry in the web app — including how to read the map and what the messages mean when location data isn't available.

Opening the map on a time entry
- Open the time entry you want to review.
- In the time entry slideout, scroll to the map section.
- If Location Sync was active during that shift, the employee's breadcrumb trail will appear on the map automatically.
Note: Breadcrumbs are only available for time entries created via the mobile clock-in/clock-out flow. Entries created manually by a foreman or office staff will not have a breadcrumb trail.
Reading the map
The map uses three visual elements to show the employee's movement:
- Solid blue circle: A cluster of location points. This indicates the employee was stationary or in a small area across multiple readings.
- Outlined blue circle: A single location point. This indicates the employee was in motion at that reading.
- Dashed line with arrow: Connects data points and shows the direction of travel.
A legend below the map identifies each element. The check-in and check-out markers are displayed separately and always appear at the front of the trail when both are present.
A geofence radius is also shown around the job site location. This is the expected on-site area as configured in Admin > Customize > Features > Time Tracking > Fence size. It is a visual reference only.
Understanding the messages when breadcrumbs aren't available
If the map shows a message instead of a trail, the message explains why:
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Location sync disabled by admin | Location Sync is off at the company level or hasn't been enabled for this specific employee. |
| Location sync disabled by user | The employee denied location permissions on their device. |
| This time entry is not a check-in/check-out | The entry was created manually and has no breadcrumb data. |
Note: Time entries recorded before Location Sync was enabled will not have breadcrumbs. If a time entry does have breadcrumbs from a period when the setting was later turned off, the breadcrumbs will still display.
